You can get a lower electric bill by changing the way you use the energy.

Hot Water Heaters

Install a Solar Water Heating System. The Savings can be as much as 20-30 percent of your electric bill.

Consider a timer for your hot water heater if you don’t already have a solar water heater. By putting the hot water heater on a timer or by lowering the thermostat from 140 to 120 degrees, you can lower your electric bill dramatically.

Saving Water

Install low flow shower heads

Turn off the water while you are shaving, brushing your teeth etc.

Install a water saver to circulate the hot water instead of letting it go down the drain.

General Savings

Running your dishwasher at night without the heated dry function and opening it to air dry overnight or if you already have a Solar Water Heater do the dishes in the morning so the hot water can be replenished for free!

Turn off lights and fans when you leave the room. While this savings is small, it can add up to a much lower electric bill in the long run.

Unplug electronics when you are not using them. Even if you turn them off they still use electricity while they are plugged in. They are known as “phantom Loads”.

Clean the lint filter every load to dry the clothes faster. Once a year have the dryer vent cleaned of lint.

Replace your appliances with more energy efficient ones. Look for appliances with recommendations from organizations like Energy Star. High efficiency washers and dryers can save you a great deal of money, as can refrigerators and solar hot water heaters which are designed to use less energy.

Try hanging clothing on a clothesline in good weather rather than using a dryer, also know as the Solar Dryer.

Saving Money on your Pool

Install a Solar Pool Heater to heat your pool, instead of the old electric or gas heaters. The energy is Free!

No room on the roof? Install an Energy Efficient Heat Pump.

Limit the time you run your pool pump—Summer 6 hours per day (2 hrs on,2 hrs off…)—Winter 4 hours per day. (1-1/2 hrs on 1-1/2 hrs off ) Alternate using the skimmer and the pool cleaner, 3 days on 3 days off.
